Porcelain Teeth Crowns in Mt Pleasant IA Area

Modern dentistry offers many possibilities for improving your smile. At Shroyer Family Dental in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, we offer restorative and cosmetic dental treatments to improve oral health and enhance your smile’s appearance. Dr. Adam Shroyer may recommend dental crown services to restore their structure and usefulness if your teeth are chipped, cracked or broken due to a traumatic injury. Porcelain teeth crowns offer a natural-looking remedy for broken teeth.

Who Needs a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns have many uses in modern dental treatments. They can be used to:

  • Repair chipped, cracked or fractured teeth to restore their usefulness
  • Conceal tooth flaws and discolorations to enhance your tooth’s appearance
  • Strengthen and protect teeth that have undergone root canal therapy
  • Anchor a dental bridge using adjacent teeth
  • Act as a replacement tooth for a dental implant

Dental crowns are custom coverings or caps that fit over weak or damaged teeth to protect them from further damage. Crowning a tooth strengthens its structure so it can continue to be used. A crown can be used to repair a severely decayed tooth after it’s been treated or to restore a tooth that’s been broken due to a traumatic injury. Rather than extract damaged teeth, Dr. Shroyer can repair them with dental crown services.

Dental Crown Process

Before recommending dental crown treatment, Dr. Shroyer will evaluate the damage to your tooth to determine if this is the best treatment option for you. If so, we’ll review the procedure with you so you know what to expect from this remedy. Dr. Shroyer will then prepare your tooth by removing some of the enamel to make room for your crown. Next, we’ll take an impression of your tooth to have a crown custom-fitted for your use.

While your custom crown is being fabricated, we’ll place a temporary crown on your tooth. When your permanent crown is ready, we’ll remove the temporary one and replace it with the permanent one. With proper care, your permanent crown can last 10 years or longer before needing an upgrade.

Restorative and Cosmetic Benefits of Dental Crowns

Dental crowns offer restorative and cosmetic benefits. These caps can be made of metal, ceramic or porcelain materials or a combination of each. Porcelain crowns strongly resemble the color and gleam of natural teeth, making them a popular choice for restoring your smile’s healthy, natural-looking appearance.

Crowns serve multiple purposes when treating damaged teeth. They:

  • Strengthen your tooth structure to keep weak teeth from crumbling
  • Seal your tooth to the gum line to keep oral infections and decay at bay
  • Hide stains, chips, cracks and other imperfections to improve your tooth’s appearance
  • Improve the shape or size of irregular or malformed teeth to make them more congruent
  • Repair and fortify damaged teeth to restore their function and usefulness
  • Help preserve damaged teeth to save them from extraction
