• Nitrous oxide sedation. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is inhaled through a small mask that is placed over your nose. This type of dental sedation is ideal for patients who have mild to moderate anxiety. You stay awake and have the ability to respond to questions during your treatment. This method of sedation is reversed with the administration of oxygen. This allows patients to drive to and from their appointment without having to arrange for transportation, as they would with oral conscious sedation.
